Yasin Nasser & Ali Katumba Join Motorsport Royalty In Tashkent

The world of motorsport is preparing for its grandest night the 2025 FIA Awards, set for December 12th which is tomorrow in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. A night when champions from every corner of the globe stand shoulder-to-shoulder, celebrated under the glowing theme “Dreams of a Champion.” But this year, amid the bright lights and roaring applause, a story from Uganda will shine brighter than most.

Yasin Nasser, together with his co-driver Ali Katumba, will walk onto that global stage to receive the FIA African Rally Championship title a moment so rare, so precious, that it moves beyond sport. It becomes history. The last time Uganda stood this tall was in 1999, when the late Charles Muhangi conquered the continent. And now, twenty-six years later, Yasin carries that torch forward with the pride of a nation on his shoulders.
This achievement was not born in billion-dollar factories or wind tunnels. It was born in the red dust of East Africa in passion, discipline, sacrifice, and sheer belief. Yasin and Ali fought through rough terrains, unpredictable weather, mechanical heartbreaks, and fierce competition, all behind the wheel of their M-Sport–built Ford Fiesta Rally2, until their victory was sealed in Morogoro, Tanzania. It is a champion’s journey humble, relentless, and inspiring.

And now imagine this:
Ugandan sons standing on the same stage as Formula 1 star Lando Norris and WRC legend Sébastien Ogier. It’s not just symbolic it’s powerful. It tells the world that Uganda does not simply watch motorsport; Uganda produces champions.
But as we celebrate this extraordinary moment, it also becomes a gentle yet urgent reminder to the Government of Uganda:
It is not every day that Uganda gets a continental champion.
And when we do, it is a sign a call to invest, to support, to recognise motorsport for the national treasure it truly is.
Motorsport is more than entertainment. It is a source of national pride, tourism potential, youth engagement, mechanical innovation, international visibility, and economic impact. Countries that invest in motorsport build industries around it training engineers, mechanics, media professionals, safety teams, and future champions. Uganda has the talent, the passion, and the potential. All we need is support.

Yasin & Ali’s journey proves what Ugandans can achieve with limited resources. Imagine what more could be done with strategic government funding, improved infrastructure, motorsport facilities, and national-level recognition. Uganda could stand on more global podiums not once in 26 years, but every season.
So as Yasin and Ali step onto that stage in Tashkent, they represents hope. The hope that dreams born in dust can rise to the world. The hope that Uganda’s flag will fly again and again among the giants of motorsport. The hope that the next generation watching them with wide eyes will dare to believe that they too can stand where champions stand.

On December 12th, the world will applaud Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba.
And Uganda must answer that applause with pride, with honor,
and with renewed commitment to a sport that continues to raise our flag higher than ever before.
