Yasin Nasser & Ali Katumba Etch Uganda Into Continental Motorsport History at the FIA Awards
Uganda’s motorsport pride soared to new heights in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as Yasin “Daddy” Nasser and co-driver Ali Katumba received global recognition for their monumental Africa Rally Championship (ARC) triumph at the prestigious FIA Awards. The ceremony, held annually to celebrate the world’s finest motorsport talents, welcomed the Ugandan duo as the newest and only the second ever crew from the Pearl of Africa to be honoured as continental champions.

Their historic moment rekindled memories from 1999, when the legendary late Charles Muhangi and Stephen Byaruhanga lifted Uganda’s first ARC title. Twenty-six years later, Nasser and Katumba reignited that legacy, ending a long national drought and restoring Uganda’s place on Africa’s motorsport throne.
The Moil Rally Crew sealed their title in dramatic fashion in September during the Rally Tanzania showdown, beating Kenya’s Samman Vohra by a razor-thin one-point margin. Their Ford Fiesta Rally2 roared through the season with consistency, grit, and an unbreakable bond between driver, navigator, and their dedicated technical team who proudly witnessed their crowning moment in Tashkent.
This achievement elevates Yasin Nasser to the highest pedestal in Ugandan rally history. His decorated résumé now boasts:
- Two Uganda National Rally Championship titles
- One Tanzania Rally Championship title
- An ARC2 category title
- And now, the coveted FIA Africa Rally Championship crown
Their recognition in Tashkent placed them among elite regional champions from across the globe, showcasing Uganda’s potential and resilience on the international stage.

With every turn, every jump, and every second shaved off the stopwatch, Nasser and Katumba have proven that Ugandan motorsport is not just competitive it is world-class. Their victory is not merely a personal triumph, but a national milestone that will inspire generations of young drivers and co-drivers dreaming of leaving their mark on the continent.
Uganda celebrates them today. The world applauds them. And the FIA Awards have immortalised them.
