The final sprint of the year, famously dubbed the FMU Champions Sprint, is upon us and will take centre stage this friday, 26th December 2025, officially closing the motorsport year in the only way rally people know how flat out, sideways, and with no regard for Christmas calories.

While the Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC) has already been safely locked away by Ronald Sebuguzi (key hidden, door double-locked), the Sprint Championship is still very much up for grabs. This means egos are still inflated, stopwatches are under pressure, and mechanics are surviving on black coffee and hope. As always, the FMU Champions Sprint is that one event where logic is parked at scrutineering and drivers show up to remind fans why rally cars don’t need number plates.

True to tradition, mammoth crowds are expected to line the stages, armed with dust masks, cameras, and that one uncle who claims he “nearly rallied” in the 90s. Fans will turn up in their numbers to watch their favourite drivers go head-to-head in what is usually a no-holds-barred sprinting contest short, sharp, and absolutely unforgiving to anyone who blinks mid-corner.

This year’s edition comes with an added twist, introducing a brand-new track layout combining gravel and tarmac. In simple rally language, this means drivers will need brains, bravery, and a suspension budget. One moment you’re sliding beautifully on gravel, the next you’re on tarmac wondering why the car suddenly remembers it has grip.

More than 45 crews have already confirmed to grace the event notablyPonsiano Lwakataka who will be taking his Subaru Impreza N12 out for what is being described as “one last dance” before heading into a sabbatical. Expect fireworks, sideways action, and possibly a farewell wave at the finish because when Lwakataka says goodbye, he does it at full throttle.

Fresh from sealing the 2025 NRC title, Ronald Sebuguzi will also be in the mix. The reigning champion and defending winner of the FMU Champions Sprint will be out to prove, yet again, why many believe he owns the sprint format like a rental property. Calm, calculated, and brutally fast, Sebuguzi will be chasing times while everyone else is chasing Sebuguzi.

No FMU Champions Sprint would be complete without Duncan Mubiru, the undisputed crowd favourite and certified showman. Whether it’s the stopwatch or the spectators, Duncan always delivers usually sideways, usually loud, and usually leaving fans asking for “just one more run.” Expect smoke, smiles, and maximum commitment as he gives supporters a final show of 2025.

Also on the entry list is Peter Kalule, ready to stir things up, while Isaac Sozzi will be wheeling his Subaru Impreza N12, aiming to turn horsepower into heroics. Adding more spice to the mix is Samuel Watendwa, who will be unleashing his latest acquisition, a Toyota RunX a car that promises surprises, especially when pushed beyond what the handbook recommends.

With championships still open, pride on the line, and nothing left to save for next year, the FMU Champions Sprint promises to deliver speed, spectacle, and pure rally comedy. It’s the final showdown where drivers send it,
