A Battle for the 2024 NRC Crown Boils In The Gulu Independence Rally

By Mwambazi Lawrence
The motorsport world is on high alert as the 6th round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) gears up for what promises to be an action packed showdown in Gulu. With only two rounds left in the season, the Gulu Independence Rally, scheduled for October 11th-12th, will be a make-or-break event for the top contenders vying for the 2024 NRC crown.
After missing the previous round in Fort Portal, Jas Mangat, has made a significant return to the grid. Early this morning, Mangat confirmed his participation, teaming up with co-driver Enoch Olinga. The pair will pilot their Hyundai i20 R5 in a bid to collect maximum points and keep their championship hopes alive. Mangat’s absence in Fort Portal dropped him down the leaderboard to 3rd, but with his return, the fight is far from over. Gulu presents a perfect opportunity for the seasoned driver to claw back into the title race.

In another corner, 2nd-placed Ronald Ssebuguzi is not ready to let the championship slip away. Ssebuguzi, a household name in the Ugandan rallying scene, has also submitted his entry and will be gunning for nothing short of victory. He’s keen on climbing the leaderboard and solidifying his chances of securing another NRC title. With everything on the line, Ssebuguzi’s experience and aggressive driving style will surely be on full display.

2nd-placed Ronald Ssebuguzi is also ready to fight for top honors.
Adding fuel to the fire is Dr. Moustapha Mukasa, who remains a strong contender in the NRC championship hunt. Mukasa is currently leading the pack but faces immense pressure to stay on top, especially with Mangat and Ssebuguzi breathing down his neck. The Gulu terrain will test his resolve as he fights to maintain his lead.

Dr Moustapha Mukasa will need all the skill and nerves of steel to stay in control.
Meanwhile, Hassan Alwi Jr. enters the fray as a potential spoiler. While not in the immediate fight for the title, Alwi’s presence is likely to shake things up. Alongside co-driver Musa Nsubuga, Alwi will be driving his Subaru Impreza N14 with one goal in mind: to cause havoc for the championship hopefuls.

Former national champion, Nasser Mutebi, is also in the hunt for maximum points, looking to rediscover his winning form. Mutebi’s experience could give him an edge, and he’ll undoubtedly be a force to reckon with as he chases victory in Gulu.
In the 2WD category, Ibrahim Lubega is fighting to retain his top spot. The fan-favorite has a loyal following, who have rallied behind him to raise the necessary funds for the Gulu Rally. Lubega will be looking to reward his supporters with a commanding performance that keeps him at the top of his category.

On the CRC front, Musa Segaabwe is all but set to seal the championship. He comfortably leads the CRC category and will be looking to close out the season in style with another strong showing in Gulu.

With top-tier crews, fast cars, and unforgiving competition, the Gulu Independence Rally promises a bloodbath of epic proportions. Fans can expect nothing less than high-octane action as Uganda’s rally elite lock horns in this pivotal round.
