Uganda has once again proven its dominance in the FIM Africa Central Africa Motocross Championship, securing the title for the 11th year in a row. This victory is proof to the country’s unwavering strength in motocross, as the team went into the second and final leg of the championship at Mombasa’s Vipingo Ridge track with a commanding 1361-point lead over their rivals.

In a thrilling contest, Uganda defended its lead with resilience and skill, outpacing the hosts, Kenya, by a final tally of 911 points to 813 points. Tanzania finished third with a total of 158 points. This victory marked a historic milestone, as it was the first time Uganda had defeated Kenya on home soil since the fierce rivalry between the two East African nations began to take shape in 2012.

The day saw some outstanding individual performances from Uganda’s motocross stars. In the MX1 class, Uganda’s Fortune Ssentamu and Wazir Ali Omar delivered a brilliant 1-2 finish, while Tanzania’s Liam Miller rounded off the podium in third place. In the MX125 class, Uganda’s Gift Sebuguzi clinched the victory, with Tanzania’s Colin Simonson finishing in second place.

The weekend also saw the return of Maxime van Pee, who had been sidelined during the earlier heats. Van Pee made a strong comeback, contributing 30 valuable points to Uganda’s total after not finishing the previous heat in the MX1 class.

With the final leg completed, Uganda retained the overall championship title, defeating Kenya by a staggering cumulative score of 2548-992. Uganda’s dominance in this year’s championship was secured after their impressive win in both the first and second rounds, held in March and December, respectively.

The first round, hosted in Uganda at E-Villas in Kalisizo Town Council, Kyotera District, saw Uganda achieve a massive victory, accumulating a remarkable 1637 points to Kenya’s 179. The sheer number of riders from Uganda played a key role in this dominant result, giving them a solid foundation for the final round.

However, the Kenyan team, eager to defend their home turf, fought valiantly in Mombasa this weekend. Despite their best efforts, they came up just short, losing to Uganda by a narrow margin of 813 to 911 points.

With this victory, Uganda has solidified its position as the motocross powerhouse of Central Africa, continuing to set the standard for the sport in the region. The 11th consecutive title not only highlights Uganda’s continued success but also underscores the growth and development of motocross in the country. As the rivalry between Uganda and Kenya continues to heat up, all eyes will be on the next chapter in this thrilling competition.
