Motocross rider Kateete has earned a spot on the prestigious FIM Oceania Women’s MX Cup team, following her outstanding performance at the recently concluded African Championship, Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN). The event, held in Morocco, showcased her skills, where she was part of the MX Cranes team that finished second overall.
Despite the challenge of arriving late in Marrakech and not being able to fully familiarize herself with the track, Kateete impressed in the MX2 Ladies’ category, securing a fourth-place finish. Her resilience was further highlighted as she and teammate Swansi Swambo brought home the gold for the Women’s Motocross (WMX) in the country division category, marking a significant achievement in their careers.
Kateete’s exceptional performance has earned her a place among six top African female riders selected for the FIM Oceania Women’s MX Cup, set to take place in March 2025. Alongside Kateete, the team includes Zambian Leah Heygate, South Africans Mienke Cawood, Zoe Botha, and Ivana Venter, as well as Kenyan Atete Benzinge.
The selection was officially confirmed in an email sent by Julie Wahome, the Beyond Sport Chairman, who expressed FIM Africa’s excitement about the team’s composition. “FIM AFRICA is pleased to announce the selection of 6 riders who will represent Africa in the 2nd edition of the FIM Oceania Women’s MX Cup,” the email stated.
Before the highly anticipated championship in Australia, the selected riders will first meet in South Africa for a one-month training camp, designed to prepare them for the challenges ahead. This training period will serve as a crucial step in ensuring the team is at peak performance when they head to Australia in March 2025.
