Karan Patel and Tauseef Khan Clinch 2024 African Rally Championship Title
By Mwambazi Lawrence
Kenyan rally duo Karan Patel and Tauseef Khan have been crowned the 2024 African Rally Champions following the cancellation of the Guru Nanak Rally, initially set to be the Kenyan round of the ARC. The event was called off due to severe rains that rendered the rally routes impassable, a situation classified as force majeure. However, despite the shortened season, Patel and Khan’s consistent performances in the previous rounds were enough to seal the deal.
This triumph marks the second consecutive title for Patel and Khan, who also claimed the championship in 2023. The pair upgraded from their Ford Fiesta R5 last year to a Skoda R5 for the 2024 season a change that proved instrumental in their dominance. Competing in four rounds of the ARC this year, the duo emerged victorious in all, proving their supremacy in the championship.
Their path to victory was relatively smooth, with limited competition from ARC-registered crews. Despite the challenges posed by the sport’s shrinking field of competitors, Patel and Khan showcased remarkable skill and consistency, securing their position as the top team in the African rallying scene.
The champions will be officially crowned on December 13, 2024, during the prestigious FIA Awards Ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda. They will be celebrated alongside other motorsport luminaries from across the globe, solidifying their status as African rallying icons.
This latest accolade not only highlights the duo’s technical expertise but also cements their legacy in African motorsport history. As the region’s rallying community looks ahead to 2025, all eyes will be on Patel and Khan to see if they can extend their reign further.
