Musa Ssegaabwe and co-driver Mathias Kiyega have sealed their 2024 Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) title after an impressive victory in the just-concluded Round 6 of the National Rally Championship (NRC) in Gulu. The duo’s performance throughout the season has been nothing short of remarkable, winning five out of six rallies in the CRC category and securing the championship with one event still remaining.

Driving their powerful Mitsubishi Evo 9, Ssegaabwe and Kiyega have demonstrated consistency and skill, dominating the CRC category in almost every round. Their only miss was at the SMC Rally, where they finished third, but the pair bounced back to secure wins in all other rounds. Heading into the CMC Gulu Independence Rally, they needed only a finish to claim the championship, but they went all out, winning the category to officially wrap up the title race.

Rolling into Gulu for the CMC Independence Rally, the pair only needed to finish the event to take the title. But in true Ssegaabwe fashion, finishing was too boring so they went ahead and won the CRC category instead. Their determination and performance throughout the season have earned them an automatic promotion to Division 2, marking a significant milestone in their rallying careers.

Despite a valiant effort throughout the season, Haruna Kataza finished as runner-up in the CRC standings after an unfortunate non-finish in Gulu. Kataza, who had been a consistent challenger, couldn’t complete the event, allowing Ssegaabwe and Kiyega to secure the title comfortably.

With their championship win, Ssegaabwe and Kiyega now earn an automatic promotion to Division 2, a well-deserved leap for the team that has been consistently at the top. Not content with their success on Ugandan soil, the crew has already set their sights on international competition. They will be part of a 12-strong Ugandan contingent traveling to Kigali to compete in this weekend’s ARC (African Rally Championship) Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally 2024.

This season’s CRC victory and their participation in the Rwanda ARC round mark an exciting new chapter for Ssegaabwe and Kiyega, who are quickly rising as a force to be reckoned with in regional motorsport.
