Battle Lines Drawn for the CMC Independence Rally 2024

This weekend, Gulu will roar to life as the penultimate round of the 2024 Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC) kicks off with the CMC Independence Rally. A total of 23 crews have confirmed participation, and the competition promises high-stakes battles across various categories as teams push for supremacy in the championship standings. Set for October 11th and 12th, this rally is one of the most eagerly awaited in the calendar.
Championship Glory on the Line
At the top of the pack, three gladiators are locked in a battle of nerves and skill. Leading the charge are the duo of Dr. Moustapha Mukasa and Mwambazi Lawrence in their fire-breathing Mitsubishi Evo 9. They’ve got 225 points under their belt, but the heat is on only a podium finish can keep them at the summit of the championship standings.
Hot on their tail, and ready to pounce, are Ronald Ssebuguzi and Anthony Mugambwa in their sleek Ford Fiesta Proto. With 203 points, Ssebuguzi knows this is his moment to strike and edge closer to the title. But in the shadows looms Jas Mangat and co-driver Enoch Olinga,are back and ready to wage war in their Hyundai R5 . Mangat missed the Fort Portal round and needs nothing short of victory to claw his way back into contention. These three crews can’t afford a single mistake this is a battle for survival!
Neck-and-Neck Showdown
In the 2WD category, sparks are set to fly! The reigning champ, Ibrahim Lubega, is gunning for yet another crown, but it won’t be a walk in the park. Edward Kirumira and his newly assigned co-driver Robert Katabalwa are ready to make their mark, breathing down Lubega’s neck at every corner. One error, and they’ll be all over him like a pack of wolves. Not to be forgotten, Julious Semabo and Diana Nagawa are lurking in the wings, waiting for the top two to falter so they can swoop in and steal valuable points.
Ready to Disrupt the Order
The leaderboard is about to get shaken up, as a group of fearless party spoilers are set to make their presence felt. Leading the charge is Hassan Alwi Jr., co-driven by Musa Nsubuga in their ferocious Subaru N14 ,he’s back to stir the pot in Gulu.
And then there’s Aine Sodo he’s not chasing the title, but he’s ready to play. Armed with a gleaming new Mitsubishi Evo X, fresh from Poland, Sodo is out to test the limits of his machine and inject some chaos into the mix. He may not be in it for the points, but make no mistake he’s here to make noise!
Charging Up the Leaderboard
As the top guns lock horns, several crews are quietly plotting their rise up the leaderboard. Peter Kalule and David Mwesigwa, pushing their Subaru XV to its limits, are poised to climb higher. Meanwhile, Nasser Mutebi and Steven Bunya, wielding the mighty Mitsubishi Evo 9, will be gunning for a spot among the elites.
New couple Didas Matsiko and Joseph Bongole will be making their debut as a team in the Subaru Impreza, but they aren’t here to take it easy. Expect these dark horses to push the envelope and spring a few surprise
Division 2 Battle
Division 2 is on fire! Isaac Ssozi is clinging to his championship lead, but with two rounds left, the pressure is mounting. Rivals Edward Kirumira and the relentless Didas Matsiko are in hot pursuit, eager to snatch away the crown. Ssozi can’t afford any slip-ups one wrong move, and his title dreams could go up in flames.
CRC One Last Fight
In the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC), it’s crunch time for Musa Segaabwe and Mathias Kiyega. Sitting at the top of the leaderboard in their Mitsubishi Evo 9, they’re on the verge of clinching the title. But Haruna Kataza isn’t giving up without a fight. It’s a two-man race to the finish, with nothing guaranteed until the dust settles in Gulu. Meanwhile, third-placed Hajji Senyonjo Ahmed will be watching from a distance, hoping for miracles.
The Fun Riders
Timothy Gawaya and Wamala Francis, who have been away from the circuit, are back to relive the action. They might not be chasing points, but they’ll add flair and excitement to the rally scene, reminding everyone of the passion and joy that fuels motorsport.
