Uganda’s motocross scene is set to benefit from a significant boost with the arrival of Andre Dearden, a certified MXGP world trainer endorsed by the FIM. Dearden is in the country for an intensive week-long training program titled “Training the Trainer” (TTT), designed to upskill local trainers and improve the performance of Ugandan riders. The program, an initiative by FIM Africa Women in Motorscycling (WIM) in conjunction with the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU), aims to elevate the standards of motocross training in the country.

Dearden, who arrived on Tuesday, brings with him years of experience and expertise from the global motocross circuit, where he has trained elite riders and coaches. His presence in Uganda is a monumental moment for the country’s motorcross community, as local trainers will receive world-class instruction to refine their training methods, understand advanced techniques, and ultimately enhance the competitive edge of their riders. The TTT program is also geared toward accrediting local trainers, a step that will allow them to operate at an international level and raise the profile of Ugandan motocross.

Speaking ahead of the training, Dearden emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation in grassroots motorsport. “Training the trainers is critical for sustainable development in motocross. If we can provide the right skills and knowledge to those leading training sessions, it will have a ripple effect on the entire community, from young riders just starting out to those aspiring to compete internationally.”

The week-long schedule includes both theoretical and practical components, ensuring a holistic approach to training. Trainers will not only be exposed to the technical aspects of coaching but also to strategic frameworks aimed at maximizing rider performance and safety.
