The 2026 KCB National Rally Championship is already shaping into one of the most unpredictable and entertaining seasons. After two action-packed rounds filled with drama, speed, heartbreak, and unforgettable moments, the championship now heads into round three with the spotlight firmly turning towards the SMC Challenge Rally in Greater Masaka.

Scheduled for 19th to 20th June 2026, the Masaka showdown is expected to once again bring together the perfect mixture of competition and unmatched rally entertainment. For many within Uganda’s motorsport fraternity, the SMC Challenge Rally has grown into more than just another championship event. It has become a full rally festival where speed meets celebration and where both drivers and fans create memories long after the final stage ends.

Over the years, Masaka has built a reputation as one of the friendliest and most exciting rally destinations on the KCB National Rally Calendar. Competitors love the event because of its flowing roads and manageable logistics, while fans continue to embrace the atmosphere that turns the entire city into a motorsport carnival. From packed service parks and nonstop music to roadside parties and crowds, the SMC Challenge Rally never disappoints when it comes to entertainment.

This year’s edition will cover a total distance of 303.88 kilometres, with 126.71 kilometres being competitive sections and 177.17 kilometres consisting of liaison stages. Crews will begin the action on Friday 19th June with stages around Masaka before heading towards the iconic Nabugabo Sand Beach for one of the most exciting sections of the weekend.

The Nabugabo sand beach superspecial  stage is expected to once again attract huge crowds from across Masaka . Rally fans have already started counting days to the beachside showdown where powerful machines will battle for supremacy in front of thousands of cheering spectators.

Few places on Uganda’s rally calendar combine motorsport and fan experience the way Nabugabo Beach does. The roaring engines, beach vibes, music, food vendors, dust clouds, and nonstop celebrations create an atmosphere that feels more like a national festival than a rally event. For many fans, the Nabugabo superspecial stage has become one of the biggest highlights of the entire championship season.

The rally action will then shift to Sembabule on Saturday 20th June where the real test of endurance begins. While Friday offers excitement and spectacle, Saturday’s long and technical roads traditionally expose weaknesses in both crews and machines. Mechanical reliability, smart tire choices, and consistency are expected to play a major role as competitors battle through the demanding stages.

At the center of attention heading into Masaka are championship leaders Hassin Alwi Jr and co-driver Musa Nsubuga. The duo have enjoyed a sensational start to the season, collecting 118 points from the opening two rounds through dominant performances, consistency, and tactical discipline. Their impressive form has already positioned them as early title favorites, but the pressure is beginning to build as rivals continue to close in.

Umar Dauda and Steven Bunya remain firmly within striking distance on 82.5 points. The pair have shown growing maturity and confidence this season and know that a strong performance in Masaka could significantly reduce the championship deficit. Their determination to challenge for top honors is becoming clearer with every rally.

Duncan Mubiru also remains firmly in the championship conversation despite a difficult outing in Mbale earlier in the season. Sitting third overall on 79 points, Mubiru’s experience and aggressive driving style make him one of the most feared competitors whenever he arrives at the start ramp. Few drivers understand how to bounce back from adversity quite like the experienced Kikankane.

Tanzania’s Randeep Singh continues to impress many within the regional rally scene after his breakthrough performances this year. Fresh from his NRC-category victory during the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in Mbarara, Singh currently occupies fourth place overall with 77 points and appears increasingly comfortable competing against Uganda’s top crews.

Former national champion Yasin Nasser completes the current top five standings on 73 points. Although he is yet to fully stamp his authority on the championship this season, the experienced driver remains one of the most dangerous names in the field. His pace, experience, and ability to perform under pressure mean he cannot be overlooked as the title race intensifies.

With six rounds still left on the championship calendar after Masaka, the battle for the 2026 KCB National Rally Championship remains wide open. Every stage, every second, and every championship point is now becoming increasingly important. One mistake, one puncture, or one mechanical problem could completely change the direction of the title race.

And once the dust finally settles at Nabugabo and Sembabule, the championship battle will quickly move eastwards to Soroti for round four, where another thrilling chapter of the 2026 season will be waiting.
