Sofar 25 Register for Round 1 of the 2025 FMU Sprint Championship at Garuga

Only 4 days left as 25 drivers have sofar registered for Round 1 of the FMU Sprint Championship, set to take place on June 8, 2025, at the Garuga Race Track.
The 4.91-kilometre circuit designed by someone who clearly enjoys watching people suffer through tight corners, infamous for humbling overconfident drivers and testing suspensions will host what promises to be an exhilarating start to the national sprint calendar. The championship, run under the 2025 National Competition Rules (NCRs), is open to all drivers brave enough to chase points toward the national Sprint Championship title and willing to risk public embarrassment if they mix up the brake and accelerator again.

This year’s opener is generating buzz with a grid so diverse, it looks like a family reunioncomplete with the “young cousins” from the Cadet class who nearly outran their “uncles” at AutoX 1 last weekend. These rising stars, having already bruised a few egos with their lap times, are back to prove that age is just a number especially when you’re small enough to carry more speed through the corners. They now prepare to line up alongside the veterans, ready to disrupt the natural order of sprint racing.
Enoch Olinga, the Clerk of the Course, had this to say with a grin: “We expect quite a lot of action on the track. From rookies still figuring out which pedal does what, to veterans who probably taught those pedals a lesson back in the day, everyone’s coming in hot. Some of these newbies have been flying like they’ve got jet fuel in their cereal, so watching them try to outpace the seniors who’ve got more tricks than a magician on a sugar rush is going to be something else. Buckle up. Or at least hold on to something…

Round 1 isn’t just about individual glory it’s the motorsport equivalent of marking your territory on the leaderboard. Drivers will be out to prove they didn’t spend the off-season just polishing their helmets and arguing over tyre pressure. With every round tossing points like candy at a parade, a strong start at Garuga could mean the difference between championship dreams and “maybe next year” excuses.
Among the notable crews who’ve confirmed their participation so far is none other than Robert Sentongo a.k.a. Nkima, who’ll be unleashing his Subaru Impreza N10 with the same energy he brings to every race unpredictable and unfiltered. Kevin Bebeto is switching things up and hopping into a Toyota RunX this time, proving that variety really is the spice of life (and racing). Walter Kibande returns with his ever-loyal Subaru GC8, a car that’s seen more sideways action than a shopping cart on a downhill slope. Abdul Katete will be piloting his Mitsubishi Evo X like it owes him money, while reigning 2WD champion Ibrahim Lubega joins the fray in his trusty Toyota FX, ready to defend his title with flair. And that’s just the tip of the petrol-scented iceberg more drivers are lining up to turn Garuga into a high-octane playground.

Fans are urged to turn up in full force your shouting might not make the cars go any faster, but it’ll definitely make the drivers feel like celebrities on a red carpet… covered in dust. Engines will be screaming back to life early Sunday morning, so set those alarms, pack your loudest cheer, and prepare for a day of tyre smoke, flying gravel, and adrenaline you can almost taste.
