Drivers Gear Up for the Champions Sprint

As the season finale of 2024 approaches, drivers are in full preparation mode for the Champions Sprint, set to take place on Thursday, December 26th. This event promises to be an action-packed spectacle, attracting a massive entry list of seasoned professionals and rising stars. So far, a total of 43 entries have been confirmed, with more expected as the event draws nearer. With such a diverse mix of talent, the competition is shaping up to be exciting.

This year’s Champions Sprint will offer something for all motorsport lovers, as the event will not only feature rally action but also showcase motocross riders. The motocross races will serve as the curtain-raiser to the main event, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day’s proceedings. The rally crews will then take center stage, going head-to-head in a fierce battles for supremacy. Throughout last week, drivers were in Busia, diligently familiarizing themselves with the track, ensuring they are fully prepared for the challenges ahead.

One of the key highlights of the event is the bet between two of Uganda’s most accomplished drivers: Ponsiano Lwakataka and Ronald Sebuguzi. Both drivers have wagered a substantial 2 million Uganda Shillings on who will come out on top in this showdown, adding an extra level of intensity and intrigue to the competition. Fans can expect to witness a fierce contest between these two skilled drivers, who will leave no stone unturned in their quest for victory.

Among the notable drivers competing will be Ronald Sebuguzi, who will be behind the wheel of his Ford Fiesta Proto, and John Constas, who will also drive a similar car. Ponsiano Lwakataka, known for his skillful driving, will race in his Subaru Impreza N12B, while Umar Dauda will take to the track in a Mitsubishi EvoX. Other notable entries include Isaac Sozzi, who will drive his Subaru Impreza N8, Peter Kalule in his Subaru XV, and Ibrahim Lubega in his Toyota FX. The competition will be fierce, with each driver eager to end the season on a high note.

The event will also feature an exciting motocross competition, with several top riders set to battle it out. The Orland brothers, Jonathan and Miguel Katende, Fortune Sentamu, and Gift Ssebuguzi will be among the riders showcasing their incredible skills on two wheels. With such a talented field of riders, the motocross action is sure to be just as thrilling as the rally events.

Organizers have emphasized safety as a top priority, with stringent measures in place to ensure the event runs smoothly. Mr. Enoch Olinga, the Clerk of the Course (COC), spoke about the track design, stating that it will challenge the drivers while providing an entertaining experience for the spectators. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 AM and will run until the evening, with spectators eagerly anticipating a day of high-speed action. As the season finale draws closer, excitement continues to build, and all eyes will be on the Champions Sprint to cap off what has been an exhilarating motorsport season.
