Prominent DRT Rally Fan Daudi Ochaya Laid to Rest in Gulu

The motorsport community came together in sorrow and unity on saturday 21st september 2024 as renowned DRT rally fan Daudi Ochaya was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Layibi Gulu. The funeral was a testament to the deep bonds Ochaya had forged through his passionate love for rallying, with fans and racers alike gathering to bid him a heartfelt farewell.
Among those present to pay their respects was DRT rally driver Desh Kananura, a close friend of Ochaya. Kananura spoke warmly of Ochaya’s unwavering support for the sport, describing him as a “pillar of strength and enthusiasm” within the rallying world. “Daudi wasn’t just a fan; he was family to the entire rallying fraternity. His cheers, his presence, and his passion will be deeply missed by all of us,” Kananura reflected.
The funeral procession saw a turnout of rally fans who travelled all the way from Kampala to pay their last respects reflecting the profound impact he had on the community. Tributes poured in from various corners of Uganda’s rally scene, with many remembering Ochaya as a dedicated supporter who was always there, rain or shine, cheering for his favorite teams and drivers.
For the rally fans who attended, the ceremony was not just about mourning but celebrating the life of a man whose enthusiasm inspired many. As Daudi Ochaya was laid to rest, there was a palpable sense of loss but also a deep appreciation for the memories and legacy he left behind.
