The roar of engines and the screech of tires will soon echo through the stretches of Namanve as the Street Racers Club Uganda prepares for its much-anticipated Gymkhana TT and Drags event, aptly dubbed “Man Vs Machine: Time and Distance.” This thrilling spectacle is set to take place at the Kampala Nile Resort Hotel Namanve on June 15th and 16th, promising an action-packed tarmac experience that will leave spectators on the edge of their seats.

A Legacy of Unity and Passion for Speed

The Street Racers Club Uganda was founded on April 6, 2016, by John Bosco Nkumbi, better known as JB, alongside Charles Kakaire. Their mission was to unite the country’s street racers, providing a platform for organizing safe and legal street races and drift events. This initiative was backed by the then-President of the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda, Mr. Dusman Okee, who saw the potential in harnessing the passion of street racers for a structured and exciting motorsport culture.

Under the stewardship of JB, who served as the club’s first president, the Street Racers Club Uganda set up its home base in Kireka. The idea quickly gained traction, resonating with street racers and motorsport enthusiasts across the nation. Their inaugural event in 2016 was a resounding success, setting the stage for the club’s future endeavors. Noor, sponsored by Riham, emerged victorious in this first event, showcasing extraordinary drifting skills in a BMW, and leaving the crowd in awe.

This year, the excitement reaches new heights with the Gymkhana TT and Drags event, featuring a star-studded lineup of some of the finest drag and drift masters in the region. The event, sponsored by MJ Investments, promises an electrifying showcase of skill and speed.

Key Highlights:

  • Nico: Fresh off his triumph in the Kenyan Drifting Championship, Nico brings his unparalleled drifting abilities to Kampala, ready to dazzle the audience with his precision and control.
  • Yassin aka Transporter: Known for his formidable Toyota Celica, Yassin’s drifting skills are a spectacle not to be missed. His aggressive style and technical finesse make him a fan favorite.
  • Richard Katanga: Piloting a Subaru Impreza GC8, Richard’s participation adds another layer of excitement to the event. His experience and expertise in both drag and drift competitions make him a formidable contender.

The official launch of the Gymkhana TT and Drags event will take place at the Nile Resort Hotel in Namanve on June 10, 2024. This launch event will set the stage for the main event, building anticipation and giving fans a taste of the adrenaline-fueled action to come. Enthusiasts and casual fans alike can look forward to a weekend filled with high-octane races, breathtaking drifts, and a celebration of the car culture that unites people from all walks of life.

The Street Racers Club Uganda has not only provided a platform for street racers to showcase their talents but has also fostered a sense of community among motorsport enthusiasts. The club’s emphasis on safety, legality, and organized events has helped transform the street racing scene in Uganda, making it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone involved.

As the engines rev and the countdown begins, Namanve is poised to witness an unforgettable display of automotive excellence. The Gymkhana TT and Drags event is more than just a race; it is a testament to the passion, dedication, and unity that defines the Street Racers Club Uganda.

Mark your calendars for June 15th and 16th, and prepare for a tarmac experience like no other. Namanve will come alive with the spirit of competition and the thrill of speed with a mix of drifts, as man and machine come together in a spectacular showdown.
