25 Crews Ready to Take On the Tracks
Today marked the exhilarating kickoff of the SMC Challenge Rally as a total of 25 crews underwent scrutineering, gearing up for what promises to be a pulse-pounding competition. Set against the backdrop of anticipation, the rally is poised to ignite the passion of motorsport enthusiasts as drivers prepare to navigate the challenging terrain and vie for supremacy.
The rally spectacle will commence tomorrow with the first car poised to set off at 8 am from the rally parc fermé at Hotel Next, setting the stage for a day filled with adrenaline-fueled action. Among the notable crews that underwent scrutineering today, all eyes were on the dynamic duo of Jas Mangat and Enoch Olinga, steering a formidable Hyundai I20. Having clinched victory in the opening round of the Uganda National Rally Championship in Mbarara, this formidable pair is determined to extend their lead and secure maximum points.
Local hero Ponsiano Lwakataka also made his presence felt as he successfully passed scrutineering, ready to unleash his full potential in front of his home crowd, hosted by his own club. Meanwhile, Ronald Sebuguzi, piloting a Ford Fiesta Proto, is geared up for redemption after a lackluster start in Mbarara, determined to climb the ranks from his uncharacteristic 10th position.
Adding to the excitement, Dr. Moustapha Mukasa, fresh from the launch of his Mitsubishi Evo9, is primed to seize the opportunity and maximize his points tally. Joshua Muwanguzi and Hamza Lwanga are also poised for action, aiming to make a statement in their newly constructed Subaru Impreza N12.
In a nostalgic twist, the return of the 2010 National Rally Champion, Nasser Mutebi, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the competition. With Steven Bunya as his co-driver, Mutebi is set to pilot his powerful Mitsubishi Evo9 on familiar terrain, intent on leaving a lasting impression.
The 2WD category promises a fierce battle between Samuel Watendwa and Edward Kirumira, with both drivers prepared to push their limits in pursuit of victory. Meanwhile, the CRC category will witness a showdown between Musa Segabwe and Mathias Kiyegga in a Mitsubishi Evo9, and Haruna Kataza, accompanied by Urban Mulindwa, in a Subaru Impreza N8.
Among the plethora of talented crews participating, notable mentions include Didas Matsiko, Jonas Kansime, Isaac Sozzi, Gilberto Balondemu, and many others, each poised to leave their mark on the rally circuit.
Tomorrow’s itinerary features two exhilarating stages, beginning with the 18km SMK Tyres stage, followed by the 28km World Wide Movers stage. The day will culminate with the Evillas Superspecial Stage, promising spectators a spectacle of speed, skill, and sheer determination as the crews push the limits of their machines.
As anticipation reaches fever pitch, the SMC Challenge Rally sets the stage for a thrilling showcase of motorsport prowess, where every twist and turn promises to deliver moments of exhilaration and drama. Stay tuned as the action unfolds on the rally tracks, shaping the destiny of champions and etching their names in the annals of rallying history.
