Ssegaabwe’s Fabia N5 Finally Touches Down
By Mwambazi Lawrence
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2026 rally season has refused to arrive in peace. With only days left to the opening round in Mbale, the atmosphere in the service parks and garages around the country is already electric. What was supposed to be a routine build-up to a new championship has quickly turned into a dramatic escalation, with fresh machinery landing on Ugandan soil and raising the stakes before a single competitive stage has even begun.

Under the banner of the Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC), the new season is already making headlines. This morning, Musa Ssegaabwe finally received his highly anticipated Skoda Fabia N5 from Spain. The car has been the talk of rally fans across town for weeks. Many had been waiting anxiously, tracking every shipping update and speculating about its arrival date. That long wait came to an end today as the car officially touched down, confirming that the 2026 championship means serious business.
The Skoda Fabia N5 is no ordinary addition to the grid. Built by RMC Motorsport in Spain, the car carries a unique engineering blend running a Peugeot engine paired with a Subaru drivetrain. It is reported to be the first of its kind on the African continent, making its debut not just a personal milestone for Ssegaabwe, but a historic moment for regional rallying. Back in December 2025, the crew traveled to Spain to inspect the machine before finalizing the deal. After roughly a month and a half in transit, the car has finally arrived and is ready to be prepared for battle.

In a remarkable twist, the Skoda was not the only rally car to arrive in the country today. Within the same 24 hours, a Mitsubishi Evo 9 belonging to young star Kevin Bebeto also rolled in, further intensifying the pre-season buzz. Two competitive cars landing on the same day sends a powerful signal the arms race for 2026 is officially underway.
The Skoda Fabia N5 is expected to debut at NRC Round One in Mbale, scheduled for March 27th–28th. All eyes will be on how the new machine handles Uganda’s demanding terrain, where speed must be balanced with durability and precision. The pressure will be immense, but so will the excitement.

As if that were not enough, more reinforcements are on the way. Walter Kibande is soon expected to unveil a Subaru Impreza N14, adding yet another serious contender to an already strengthening field. With new cars continuing to pour into the country, the 2026 season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory.
Mbale will not simply mark the beginning of another championship — it will set the tone for a fierce and unpredictable campaign. The engines may not have roared yet, but the message is clear: the 2026 NRC season has arrived with intensity, ambition, and a promise of unforgettable competition.
