The countdown to the Lumala @60 Mum @90 Mbarara Rally continues. Organized by the MPU, the highly anticipated event is set to be launched tomorrow at Mwesigwa Resort in Mbarara. As the season opener, this rally promises to set the tone and lay the carpet for the 2025 motorsport year, with crews eager to make their mark on the leaderboard.
The rally will cover a total distance of 295.16 kilometers, featuring 140.64 kilometers of competitive stages and 154.52 kilometers of liaison sections. The event is divided into seven stages, with the standout segments being the Lumala Stage (30.62 kilometers, and the Mama Stage (23.58 kilometers,). These two stages will be run multiple times, giving drivers plenty of chances to thrill the fans or, as one wag put it, “to make the dust thick enough for us to eat lunch with it.”
Speaking about the preparations, Clerk of Course Mr. Kisitu Mayanja emphasized the fast-paced nature of the stages and issued a strong safety advisory for fans. “The stages are very fast, and we urge fans to keep off the track during the rally. The organizers are doing everything possible to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone,” he said.
Adding to the excitement, rally titans Duncan Mubiru and Moses Lumala are expected to steal the show with their Ford Fiesta Proto cars, which are set to arrive in Uganda next week. Their participation promises thrilling action on the track, as both drivers are known for their aggressive and crowd-pleasing racing styles.
Crews have started submitting their entries, and two Rwandan teams are confirmed to participate, bringing an international flavor to the event. But amidst the speed and dust, the event’s milestones are a serious cause for celebration. Honoring Moses Lumala’s 60th birthday and Mama’s 90th, the rally combines high-octane racing with heartfelt tributes. It’s a perfect blend of speed, tradition, and humor.
As anticipation builds, fans and crews are preparing for what promises to be a memorable rally season opener in Mbarara. Stay tuned for updates from the launch event tomorrow at Mwesigwa Resort, where more details about the rally will be unveiled.
