The Kabalega Hoima Rally 2024 has begun with two stages the 18.40km John Kakonge stage and the 23.10km Summa Stadium stage. Jas Mangat, expertly navigated by Enoch Olinga, has already established a commanding lead. Clocking an impressive overall time of 21:12.16, Mangat’s Hyundai I20 R5 is proving untouchable, setting a fierce pace for the competition.
Trailing in second place is Ford Fiesta driver Ronald Sebuguzi, who put up a strong performance to finish with an overall time of 22:43.8. Hot on his heels are Musa Ssegabwe and Mathias Kiyega, who are currently third with a time of 22:46.4, just a whisker behind Sebuguzi.
Aine Sodo and Asumman Mohamed, returning to the championship in their new Mitsubishi Evo X, have delivered a steady performance to secure the fourth spot with a time of 23:45.8, while the Equity Bank-sponsored team of Dr. Moustapha Mukasa and Geoffrey Sserwoga round off the top five with a time of 24:26.5.
2WD Category Update
The 2WD competition is heating up, with Ibrahim Lubega taking the lead after two stages with a time of 27:52.5. Chasing closely in second are Julius Semambo and Diana Nagawa, who finished with a time of 28:27.14. Completing the top three is Samuel Watendwa, piloting a Toyota FX, clocking in at 29:45.2.
Setbacks in Division 2
The rally has not been without its challenges, particularly for the Division 2 contenders. Didas Matsiko and Isaac Sozzi failed to finish Stage 1 due to overheating issues, which they are now working to resolve before the next regroup.
Stage 2 proved equally unforgiving, claiming the Subaru XV of Peter Kalule and David Mwesigwa, as well as the Toyota Vitz of Salim Gasemba and Jaffer Lukenge, both of whom failed to make it out of the stage.
What’s Next?
As the competition progresses, the rally is shaping up to be a battle. With Mangat setting a blistering pace, the fight for the podium remains fierce. However, as is often the case in rallying, anything can happen. Fans are eagerly watching to see if Sebuguzi, Ssegabwe, or others can close the gap or if Mangat and Olinga will continue their dominance.
