It has been one year since the untimely passing of Sean Cardovillis, a cherished sports presenter and beloved figure in Kenyan journalism. On September 8, 2023, Sean’s sudden departure left a profound void in the world of sports media and in the hearts of many who knew and admired him.

Born on February 23, 1973, at War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru, Sean’s life was a tapestry of passion and achievement. From a young age, he excelled in various sports, earning accolades and setting the stage for a career that would eventually make him a household name. His enthusiasm for motorsport, rugby, athletics, swimming, cricket, and squash was not just a personal passion but a driving force in his professional journey.

Sean’s career spanned over 20 years, during which he became a prominent voice in sports journalism. His early years at KTN and Capital FM in the mid-90s marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. After a stint at Paradise FM in Seychelles from 2006 to 2012, he returned to Kenya and made significant contributions at Nation Media Group from 2014 to 2020 before rejoining Capital FM, where he continued to make his mark until his passing.

Despite facing significant health challenges, including a serious battle with pneumonia in early 2022, Sean’s resilience was nothing short of inspiring. He managed to overcome these obstacles, returning to his active lifestyle with renewed energy. Tragically, Sean’s life was cut short on September 8, 2023. He collapsed on the stairs leading to his flat after returning home from work, his lifeless body discovered 14hours after.

As we mark the first anniversary of his passing, we remember Sean not just for his professional accomplishments but for the warmth, passion, and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life. His legacy continues to resonate through the countless lives he touched and the impact he made in the field of sports journalism.
