Yassin Nasser, the reigning 2023 Uganda and Tanzania National Rally Champion, is set to embark on a thrilling journey as he prepares to tackle the prestigious WRC Safari Rally 2024. Armed with his trusted Ford Fiesta MK2 and accompanied by experienced navigator Joseph Kamya, Nasser stands as the sole representative of Uganda in this esteemed international event.
When questioned about his readiness for the Safari Rally, Nasser exuded confidence, stating, “Yes, we are well prepared now.” Delving deeper into their preparation strategy, Nasser shed light on the challenges posed by the rally’s diverse terrain, emphasizing its demanding nature with a rigorous week-long schedule, including four consecutive days of rallying.
Despite the daunting task ahead, Nasser remains unfazed by specific competitors, focusing instead on leveraging the rally as an opportunity to gain invaluable experience and forge relationships with larger teams. Regarding vehicle setup, Nasser revealed a meticulous approach, maintaining consistency while remaining open to adjustments following reconnaissance days.
However, behind every successful rally endeavor lies a robust support network, and Nasser highlighted the financial hurdles involved in participating in such events. With expenses ranging from tires and fuel to accommodations spanning nearly two weeks, Nasser acknowledged MOIL as the main sponsor, with ongoing efforts to secure additional support.
