By Mwambazi Lawrence
Betika has officially boosted Uganda’s rally ace Duncan Mubiru, famously known as Kikankane, for the upcoming WRC Safari Rally Kenya scheduled for 12th to 15th March in Naivasha. The Safari Rally will not only attract global attention but will also double as the third round of the FIA World Rally Championship and the opening round of the African Rally Championship, making it a high-stakes event on both the international and continental calendars.

Uganda will be proudly represented by three crews ready for the challenge. Oscar Ntambi teams up with Asuman Mohammed in a Mitsubishi Evo X, while reigning African Rally Champion Yasin Nasser lines up with Ali Katumba in a Ford Fiesta R5 for thier 4th attempt. Duncan Mubiru will compete in his Subaru Impreza GVB under Betika sponsorship
For Mubiru, this will be his third attempt at conquering the legendary Safari. And anyone who knows Safari knows it’s not just a rally it’s an endurance exam disguised as motorsport. The rocks are sharp, the dust is biblical, and the mud can humble even the most confident driver. But Duncan isn’t new to Kenya. He has tackled other events there before, meaning he understands that in Naivasha, even the wind has racing lines.
Preparations are already in high gear at Duncan’s Garage in Kalelwe, where the team is working tirelessly to fine-tune the Subaru Impreza GVB ahead of the grueling showdown. Mechanics are leaving nothing to chance, carrying out extensive checks and adjustments to ensure the car is fully ready to withstand the tough Naivasha stages.

Meanwhile, Ugandan rally fans renowned for their passionate, drum-beating, vuvuzela-blowing, flag-waving support are already organizing convoys to Naivasha to cheer on their drivers. And trust a Ugandan rally fan at Safari… they don’t just attend, theyinvade politely! From border posts to service park, you’ll hear Luganda, Lusoga, Ateso and Runyankole louder than the exhaust notes. With the event carrying both WRC and ARC championship significance, expectations are sky-high, and the atmosphere promises to be electric.
With Betika’s backing, valuable Kenyan experience, and the support of Ugandan fans, Duncan Mubiru heads into the 2026 Safari Rally determined to make his third attempt his most memorable yet.
