Man vs Machine Gymkhana TT Battle of Skill and Speed Approaches
As the countdown to the highly anticipated Man vs Machine Gymkhana TT event draws near, excitement is boiling among street racing enthusiasts across Uganda. This thrilling event, scheduled for the 15th and 16th of June at the Nile Resort Hotel in Namanve, promises an adrenaline-pumping showdown between top street racers and cutting-edge machinery.
We came across one of the competitors, Oscar Kiberu, a telecom engineer by profession working with Airtel Uganda, but better known on the streets as the “Racing Legend.” Oscar’s journey into the world of street racing began in 2011, inspired by the awe-inspiring performances of racing icons Kenny Katanga, Iru, and Mark Nsubuga. “Their skill and passion for the sport captivated audiences,” Oscar reminisces, “and I found myself hopelessly enchanted by their love for street racing. I vowed to be better than them someday.”
Since then, Oscar has never looked back. Over the years, he has driven a variety of high-performance vehicles, including the Subaru Impreza GC8 STI and Subaru Impreza N12 STI. Currently, he commands the formidable Celica GT4, his favorite among all. “The Celica GT4’s powerful engine, responsive steering, and excellent braking capabilities make it a dream to drive,” he enthuses.
Oscar’s prowess on the streets may not always be the most polished, but his performances are nothing short of electrifying. “When I get on the street and do my thing, the hoots and hollers from the crowd fuel my thrill and adrenaline. It’s all about the joy and excitement that each drift brings,” he shares. For Oscar, engaging with the audience is paramount. “They want to be acknowledged and feel like they are part of the performance,” he adds.
Beyond the thrill of racing, Oscar cherishes the friendships and camaraderie that the sport has brought into his life. “I’ve gained great friends who have become like brothers to me. The sport has also opened doors to business deals and ideas. During tough times, I’ve always had a shoulder to lean on, even making friends with the police,” he reflects with gratitude.
Oscar extends his appreciation to his fellow street racers, acknowledging that they make the streets vibrant and exciting. “They have made life a lot more fun,” he notes. To the young generation of aspiring racers, his advice is simple yet profound: “Be humble, respect, and appreciate each other.”
As the Man vs Machine Gymkhana TT event approaches, Oscar is eager and ready to take on the challenge. “I am so geared up for the upcoming event and would love to be paired with one of the best street racers,” he declares. He calls upon all his fans and well-wishers to turn up in large numbers for this epic showdown. “See you all there,” he signs off, promising a performance that will leave the audience on the edge of their seats.
