In a world where motorsport has long been dominated by men, a group of trailblazing women in Uganda decided it was time to shift the paradigm. On March 8, 2023, they established a groundbreaking initiative, aptly named “Women in Motorsport Uganda.” This dynamic collective is driven by a shared passion for motorsport and a common goal: to empower, promote, sensitize, and support female participation in a sport traditionally monopolized by men.

When questioned about their vision for the future of women in motorsport, the response is clear and resolute. The members of Women in Motorsport Uganda aim to see a surge in the number of skilled and well-equipped women across all facets of motorsport. Their goal is not just to witness an influx of women into the sport but to witness these women rise to become champions in their own right.

As Monica Birwinyo, a codriver and one of the founders, succinctly puts it, “Having more and better-equipped women in all aspects of motorsport and more women joining the sport and becoming champions” encapsulates the collective vision of Women in Motorsport Uganda. Through their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment, these women are steering the wheels of change and ushering in a new era where gender is no longer a barrier but a celebration of diversity in the fast-paced world of motorsport.
